At The Lux Spa in Chicago, Illinois, our medical aesthetician and team are here to provide you with the skin care treatments you need. We are pleased to offer chemical exfoliation to help bring out the best in your skin in a relaxing, spa-like environment.

Exfoliation is the process of getting rid of the top layers of the skin (the dead skin) and other pore-clogging debris from the skin’s surface. Exfoliation allows the newer skin beneath this surface to come through, helping to diminish the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. With our chemical exfoliation, we use acids that are safe for your skin to remove this debris and dead skin. The acids safely remove this layer and reveal the healthy skin cells below. Our aesthetician uses lactic acid and glycolic acid to accomplish this, and the end result is smoother and clearer skin. These are gentle types of exfoliants and come in varying strengths to provide you with a quick and easy treatment.

Glycolic Acid & Its Benefits
One of our most popular acid exfoliants to treat wrinkles and acne is a form of alpha hydroxy acid (AHA). It comes from plants or vegetables with a high sugar content, such as beets and sugarcane. When placed on the skin, it helps dissolve the material that holds dead skin cells on the top dryer, older layer of skin. This opens up blocked pores and improves blackheads. Glycolic acid gives your skin an even exfoliation as it evens out the texture of your skin. As it hydrates and brightens your skin, wrinkles and fine lines will be less visible. Once you have had a glycolic peel, any additional peels done thereafter will build on the improvements already made.

Lactic Acid & Its Benefits
Another alpha hydroxy acid, lactic acid chemical peels are derived from milk. This is a mild peel that has very little or downtime, meaning you can expect your skin to go back to normal in three to four days after treatment. This acid is naturally metabolized by your body so there is little possibility of having an allergic reaction. This makes it ideal for use if you have sensitive skin, have mature skin, or for your first chemical peel. Lactic acid is super hydrating if you have dry skin, as it softens the skin. It not only improves the skin tone but faces sun spots and reduces fine lines as it helps with the production of elastin and collagen in the skin. It can also reduce acne breakouts by controlling oiliness in the skin.
